The marginalized populations of the lake region of Sô-Ava in southern Benin live isolated. They can only move around by canoe or small boat. Access to health services, including reproductive health and family planning, is difficult. In order to meet the needs of these populations, the Government of Benin with the support of its partners, including UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, launched a boat-clinic initiative in the lake villages in 2015 to provide reproductive health services voluntary family planning services. Just over a year into implementation, results are already visible.
